Cupcake Book Giveaway

I keep seeing this book - at the bookstore, at Costco, at Sam's Club. I have picked it up a few times and flipped through it but yesterday my girlfriend brought it in and I really sat down and looked at it. I HAD to run out and buy it. It makes you want to have a party just so you can make some cupcakes! I like it so much I decided one of you should have one too! So make a comment below and I will pick one lucky reader at the end of the week to receive the book!

In my former life I used to make wedding cakes and totally over the top birthday cakes. If I went to a kid's birthday and they had a store bought cake I was pretty sure that parent didn't actually love their child. I had my third child and got over that -my kids have had more than one ice cream cake, which feels like some kind of a step up from the grocery store cake! I got the obsession about fancy birthday cakes from my mom. She used to hand us a big stack of Wilson cake decorating books and let us pick any cake we wanted for our birthday. I had a hot air balloon cake, a grand piano cake (I didn't practice piano, I can't play it now, but I did take lessons!), and of course the infamous Barbie cake. I haven't totally given up on the cake decorating - a few years ago my little brother got married and I made 600 (!!!!) mini cakes for his wedding. After that my hiatus from cake decorating began! But I am back - reinvented as a cupcake decorator! I will keep you posted on how the designs work out!
This is a photo of the birthday cakes my mom made for my birthday circa 1978 . . . she made an individual cake for each kid at the party - oh the things mommy guilt drives you to do!

  1. Lucky for me I was the bride of that "little brother," and I'm still receiving comments (4 years later) on how fabulous the cakes were at my reception!

As for your new tires, did you consult RJ??? If you want any compliments, cruise on over to our house; I'm sure RJ will have something to say. Then again, if you don't want a TireRack lecture, just show them to me and I'll pretend to know something about how great the tread is!

  2. All you have to do is look at my current figure to realize that I am a HUGE fan of cupcakes! Especially those designed to look like a giant alligator (yes...I read the book at Costco as well)

    Hook me up Jenn!

  3. I personally love to bake. I don't have near enough time lately. However, I have seen this book in the stores as well and i haven't justified buying it yet. I really want to make a book similar but with all the baked/candy goods I make. Seeing as I have My Memories Suite... that means the chances of it happening are even bigger because its so easy! :)

I wish my mom made me homemade cakes...

  4. Oh, my goodness! 600?! That is insane. You are amazing. My sisters don't even bring a bag of chips to a gathering!

I'd love to see some photos of the 600, and all of the future cupcakes. If you need anyone to eat them, just let us know. ;)

  6. Cupcakes are great. My wife makes great coconut cupcakes with a coconut and cream cheese frosting. I will have to pick this book up for her. Thanks for the recommendation.

  7. For the record- I was born in 1978. Just thought I'd rub that in! That book looks so cool! Cupcakes are totally the 'in' thing right now! Maybe you can make me 600 cupcakes for MY wedding! Great idea to have a give away! Hopefully I'll win! (Because you're so pretty)

Did you get to see the book I made for my brothers wedding? It turned out awesome! I'll have to show you sometime!

  8. My daughter has been the recipient of one of your wonderful doll cakes - it was SO amazing! I guess I was one of those moms who went for the store bought cake - I am so glad you came to my rescue! Now I want to do the cupcakes!!

I love the idea of taking pictures everyday for the year - I know that it would be a great record of what REALLY happens - not just the vacations, birthdays, holidays, etc. I have used Poloroid My Memories Suite for TONS of books and they are EASY and FUN to make! I am just finishing my book for 2008 - I can't wait for it to arrive!

  9. My big plan for Suzy and Pearl is to tell them their Aunt DANA will make them whatever cake they want for their birthday...and their wedding cake too! If you don't want that to happen, I better win that cupcake book. Maybe if I start small, in 30 years I could master a wedding cake...or a wedding worthy cupcake :) xoxo Becky

  10. I love to decorate cakes... they don't always look like I know what I'm doing... but, I do love to try. Best cake I ever made was a Pirate Ship for my son's 4th birthday... he is almost 11 now. It's gone down hill from there. That was when I only had one child and was trying to out-do myself every year. Now with 3 kids maybe the cupcake route is the way to go. Great idea!!
    Thanks-
    Amy

  11. Wow...600 cupcakes. Ummm...I'm an overachiever, but that's a LOT of cakes! I always made my kids' cakes when they were little, so I guess I really loved them :)
